Default what is this dakota worth?

First off i want to say hi from a new potential dodge dakota owner.

I was searching craigslist tonight and found a post for a guy asking to take over payments on his 2003, v6 dakota sport extended cab, auto trans. with 65k on it. I contacted the guy and found out that he owes a little less than $9k on the truck. I checked the retail kelly bluebook and it lists the retail value at $8200. The only thing i am not sure of is that kbb does not list "sport" as a type for dakotas. anyone have a value on this truck? he said he looked and it was listed at $11k on the site he checked it on (im taking that with a big grain of salt). Truck looks immaculate in the pictures i have seen.

BTW, i am not planning on taking over payments cause he has such a high interest rate. if the loan to value is good, i will go to my bank and get the loan.

Thanks for your help!

They do have the sport option, it is the first one to select on the options page. No way is it worth 11k, i ran it as a sport and only alloy wheels and it said 6k. The way the truck market is that is over priced to pay 9k for that.

thats what i was thinking. most people trying to dump vehicles via take over payments are upside down in them anyway. just thought i would ask some people who know about these trucks. Thanks for the reply

edit: oops, i totally overlooked the sport option. it is funny that the sport option actually makes the value of the truck decrease when selected. for my area code it dropped retail from 8200 to 8100.

the value they give on kbb also depends on the zip code you live in, thats why they make you put in the zip code. for example, a 4x4 would be worth a little more where you get bad weather opposed to like southern california.

In the current market 9k is too much for it, you could try to talk him down but if he won't work with you it's probably best to find another dak.

seriously, theres tons of daks for sale right now it wont be hard to find one. Ive even seen R/T's going for ridiculously low prices especially when gas was 4$. I told everyone that it would be stupid to sell an R/T beecause eventually gas was going to go down, and even if it didnt go down your best bet would be to keep the R/T and buy a cheap beater thats good on gas to drive to work in because you'd never get the money its actually worth out of it in today's market. but no one listens to me. I saw one R/T on ebay that sold for only like 6k that only had like 60k miles on it in great condition because the guy "couldnt afford the gas". The same thing happened in the mid 70's when people started trading their chargers and challengers for a ford pinto or mercury lynx. Sure they saved on gas, but a mint condition challenger R/T 426 or 440, even the 340 six packs today with all matching numbers and very low original miles goes for like well over $100k. Im not saying a dakota with a v8 is going to be like a challenger in 30 years, but any vehicle is worth what you think its worth. I know the dak you're talking about is a 3.9 im just trying to prove a point for some reason. also, dont let anyone trick you into thinking the 3.9 is a gas saver...its really not. you may get a little better highway miles than a v8 but not by much.
moral of the story: dont sell your R/T's or 318 dakotas, they're already hard to find today, 20 years from now they'll be almost non existant and in 40 years when every car uses hydrogen or atomic energy to hover around 2 feet off the ground, your internal combustion v8 dakota will be a collector's item. dont let some filthy rich saudi king control what you drive.
