1st...2nd....3rd.....?
I have a 98 Dak 5.2L. Ever since its the temperature has went down to -35-40 the dak is only shifting fro 1st to 2nd, then 3rd, but not 4th. I let it warm up for about 15min and it still does it. I was told to put some cardboard infront of the rad and that should help, but nothing yet. Anyone got any ideas as to what I should do?
Thanks
Thanks
mine will do that too...in the mornings...i go to drive (after a quick 15 min idle) and it at about 2500 RPM goin 60 mph when it should be at 1800.....but after 10-15 miles itll kickdown......
I never tried driving it at 60mph for about 10-15 miles, i was scared to go over 80kph because the rpm was getting pretty high, I thought I was going to wreck it. I'll try that tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks guys
Ok you do not go into overdrive until the trans has come up to operating temperature, your trans, and fluid have to warm up in order for overdrive to engage. Do you have a trans fluid cooler, these cold slow warm up at those temps.
Edit, I would see if someone makes a transmission heater for your trans, it would also be a good idea to get a block heater.

I do have a trans cooler, it was on the truck when I bought it. Also I do have a block heater. At -40, im DEFINITELY plugging it in.

yeah that block heater warms up the engine but doesn't do anything for the transmission... the reason you are not shifting into O/D is prob cuz its just too cold... and basically regardless of how long you let it warm up in the morning the tranny will still be really cold so yeah i guess its basically normal what you are going through...
well i would cover the trans cooler and look into a trans heater.
