srry to thread jack

what would it take to rebuild a rear end? my clutches are worn due to over 193k miles....or would it be easier to swap the whole thing out?

and what do i have to look at to see what exactly rear end i have?(spline tooth?, gear ratio? and weather its an open or LSD)?

best way to say is call a dealership with your vin. and if you have clutches in your rear axle, than its an LSD. if it's just spider gears, than it's an open diff. do you still have the build sheet in your glove box?

Check gear backlash before removal, and note it somewhere...

easy to replace the clutch disks, and to tell if you have open or LSD, it will spin both tires. (two stripe burn out.) To remove, remove axle shafts, remove clips holding carrier into the diff. Next you will have to remove the pin that holds the gears in. move the gears out than the packs will fall out. replace those (about 150 bucks probably from the dealer.)

Install is reversal, make sure the bearing races go in the same place. don't mix them up. Check the bearings while in there.

once you have the carrier caps in, torque them (80 ft/lbs i believe, my dana 60 was that.) Next check the backlash again, if it's wrong than you either measured wrong on messed something up on install like the carrier isn't seated properly.

nope...just a one wheeler squealer here

i went to a local dodge dealership here in town and i ran my vin ans i got a sheet that shows EVERY option my truck came with from the factory...

and it says a 3:55 gears axle ration and it dosent say anythign about a limited differential.....so i take it my truck has a open rear??

it also says 9.25 LD Rear Axle....whats that?

11x2 rear drum...

...and i think thats about it.......

i was wanting to upgrade to a limited since i willl be converting to a manual trans here sooner or later...and that meens a better hook up

what would i need to do?

i desintigrated my LSD clutch due to multiple 3500rpm clutch dumps, cost about $500 (with dealer employee discount) to get it replaced...
