it also says 9.25 LD Rear Axle....whats that?

11x2 rear drum...

i was wanting to upgrade to a limited since i willl be converting to a manual trans here sooner or later...and that meens a better hook up

what would i need to do?
9.25 is a heavier duty axle the heavier on in the dakota's.

With an open diff i don't see you having it wear out unless you actually have a problem with it.

To change to a limited slip you would have to regear the entire essentially. Shim it, ect..

best bet would be to find a limited slip axle, replace the clutches yourself (150 about for parts up here for my dana 60 is was (never did it though)) but it's just a pin, you hammer out, than knock another pin, spin the gears and it will fall out with the LIMITED slip packs.
