Actually his replay says there is another problem going on

But you need to make sure the battery is fully charged, connectors cleaned and all voltage is correct before putting in a new PCM because it will short the next PCM the same way.
You may have a dirty PCM connector or a low voltage condition sounds like something possible may be grounding out somehow like a pinched wire that is semi grounding.

You may need to get the Dakota to an electrical specialist for an inspection and explain the problem to them

If you don’t you run the risk of the replacement having the same problem

It sounds like your PCM is toast. Once you rule out the obvious it's all that's left.

I think Mabel is tossing you a line. Just be sure to disconnect the battery before changing it out. Even in instances where the 5v supply is shorted for example, the PCM is protected from damage.

As to "reflashing" the question about that is why did the data get corrupt in the first place?

i have no idea why it did that.......

it first happened several years ago......

this is my original thread, and it dates back quite some time.....

i would htink, that if there was some other issue, such as a short, that something else would have also had issues since then......

i will make sure that he makes sure the battery terminals are clean and that the pcm is properly secured to the vehicle

Once you rule out the obvious you're looking at the modules.

P0601 means PCM. There isn't much else you can do. You should not be having recurring problems with it.

by recurring problems with it, i mean it keeps tripping the cel.... i used to clear the codes with a code scanner, and on the next start of the vehicle, it came back....

i was surprised that flashing with the drb3 scanner did keep it gone for about 6 months.....

are there any other reputable places that the public here has had experience with? i fdon't want to recommend them junk, but i do also want to keep it as cheap as possible, with the best warranty as possible as well...

so far, it is $209 @ solopcms.com with exchange and a 1 year warranty (their limited lifetime warranty is $75 more)

also just found http://autocomputerexchange.net/2000...kota-1315.html they want $199 with a 12 month warranty with exhange, a 2 year warrany for $50, and a lifetiem warranty for $100

I wouldn't buy the extra warranty. Electronic components normally fail within a short period of time.
