Default New Dakota Owner

I have been a member of DodgeForum since 2006. I am on my 2nd Stratus and just recently purchased a 2001 Dakota SLT 4x4, 4.7L V8 with the extended cab. It has the Infinity stereo system. It seems that it was a special order version of the truck based on the window stickers I found in the glovebox. The person who owned it before me changed the stock head unit to some Pioneer head unit I don't like and it sounds like most/all the speakers are blown. Also, I beleive it's supposed to have a factory amp. In my 2004 Stratus R/T the amp is located under the passengers seat. I can't seem to find it in my truck. Is it in a different spot? Is it supposed to have one? Anyone know how powerful it is?

My intention is to replace everything and upgrade the front speakers to a component set, but I want to see what I am getting into before I start buying stuff or ripping the truck apart. Where would be the best places to find a wiring diagram/schematic of the entire stereo system?

Thanx in advance for your help,

Chris

i know they have one and that system is fairly decent for a stock system when its fully working but if i were you i'd say get components and a better deck if you don't like yours. my friend switched to components in his 3000gt and the difference is amazing it sounds fantastic.

I actually just put a new deck in my truck last night (ton of fun in a school parking in 0 degree weather). I got a sony because best buy didn't have the alpine or keenwood one I wanted. I actually like this one though. Never buy sony speakers, but the head unit is pretty good. Bestbuy actually had a deal when I was there 2 infinity speakers, 2 10in infinity subs, and a box for like $267 or something.

for some reason, my radio is still finnicky. it swaps AM/FM around turns ect, and i've tried 2 factory radios. I'm not sure if an aftermarket will do that tho...

The OEM amp is in the passenger's kick panel. The Haynes book has some diagrams for the audio system. If the speakers are blown, it's not very difficult to replace them. It just takes time, patience (especially on the rears) and the right tools for the job. It could also be that the Pioneer unit is wired incorrectly. I have a 2001 CC also. If you need info post here and I may be able to help.

A cheap fix for the front speakers is some gorilla glue (or adhesive of your choice). My front and rear speakers sounded pretty bad and I had no cash for an upgrade so I took out the speakers and started playing aroung. Long story short, there is a foram ring that runs on the outside and it was loose and causing extra vibration. I use glue and reapplied it, reattached in door and it sounds much better.

I always like the "welfare fixes"
