i have a modded kegger, but i didnt do it, hughes engines did it. its all polished up inside and has the runners shortened 2.5 inches. the kegger, combined with my v8 tb lets my truck scream after about 2800 rpms. for all the crap ive done to my truck it still has pretty decent low end. it'll spin the tires with ease from a dead stop and will powerbrake until they pop... theres just not much "pull" in the lower rpms.

oh i forgot, i was gonna ask you rtdakota2001, what types of dremel bits did you use for that? i have a dremel and a bench grinder and have been thinking about doing that to my v8 tb. I dont think i'll bore it out any more, but just removing the air horns and polishing it up might help a little. if i ruin it i could always put my v6 tb back on, but that would suck.

i just used a crappy black and decker dremmel and i used 3 bits, 2 cone type for smoothing things and one cylindrical one for the rest. honestly tho, i used the bench grinder for about 75% of the work, i just removed the safety plates from it so i could get at the TB from more angles. then when all was said and done i used the wire wheel to clean it up. i wold leave some of the outside horns on as they help keep the airhat from sliding off. good luck, post some pics up when your done.

Thanks for the info
BTW wish I had thought of using the grinder instead of all those dam Dremel blades lol

ok, i slapped this bad boy on last night and, wow. it DEFINITELY made a difference in throttle response and even smoothed out my idle. i would recommend this simple mod to anyone with a 5.9 or 5.2 and i imagine even more drastic gains with the 3.9. good luck and feel free to ask me anything about doing it.

BTW when all was said and done i sanded the whole thing with progressively finer grit sandpaper just to get everything niiice and smooooth. in the future i will go to the holley 52mm but until then this is awesome.

just another stupid question

Since TB's dont do alot of metering like carbs, do they really get plugged if they've been sitting in a junkyard? I know the cable is pretty much universal, but is there such a thing as a "gummed up" TB?

gummed up is from the carb having fuel sitting in it. a throttle body doesnt have the fuel go through it. just during use it gets gummed up from the pcv system, etc. its always good to clean it when you get a junkyard unit.

yea im definately gonna try this. its gonna have to wait until it gets warm outside because right now its in the 10-20 degrees range and i hate the cold. I dont even change my oil in the winter. I put in fresh mobil fully synthetic and a k&n filter in like the beginning of november and run it until like april.

yeah fox is right. just blast the thing like hell with some solvent and then take a toothbrush to it. if it looks shiny and clean, it probably is. just make sure to get the vacuum ports and the sensor ports and stuff, common sense says be gentle there.
