I mean I def understand your guys' point behind it being consistant at the strip Im not trying to be a ***** here or anything, but there are still so many 10sec cars out there that are manuals. I realize once you get into those single digit numbers they are probably going to be autos but those transmissions aren't even close to your everyday 46re or any other tranny. A manual weighs less, is more reliable, doesn't over heat, and is more effective at getting your power from the motor to the wheels.

I don't know, my family has always been into muscle cars, both my father and uncle always had them when they were younger and if you were to go out and buy an old charger or even a new car like a corvette or something and you were to get it as an auto you would be an idiot. I mean if the R/t had an option of coming with a 5 spd, when you were first looking to buy one, would you have still gone for the 46re?

I can understand if you were looking for an auto in plans to build a sigle digit car, but how many people do you know that own a car like that? Not many, if you say you buy in auto in plans to build a 12 or 13 sec car I think that is were the manual is def better than an auto.

I dunno, it is all a matter of opinion and prefernce but I would take a manual anyday over an auto, it has so many advantages.

Here's the real question: most strip cars have a manually shifted powerglide or TH400.

Def almost all 9 or less second cars have a powerglide, its not even an auto but not really a manual either, i dunno how those things work lol

Iv always said though if it has a clutch its a manual if it doesn't its an auto, i don't care how many stupid ways they make an auto "like a manual" no clutch, no manual

my vote would be for an auto but with a reverse manual valve body shifter. all the fun of a manual, all the reliability of an auto, and no clutch.

that depends on what auto transmission you're talking about. i guarantee you i could break a manual trans easier than i could break a torqueflite.
and yes you are right about one thing, if you're buying a car to go out and have fun with and maybe occasionally race at the strip then a manual would be the way to go. Build an 8 second viper with a 6-speed you need to hire a professional to drive it down the track. take a stock 12 second viper and anyone who's decent with a stick can take it down the track and not launch it into a wall.
i tend to think you've never driven a vehicle thats REALLY fast before. A buddy of mine has a 10 second buick grand national thats ridiculously built and all motor complete with roll cage *per IHRA rules*. He was kind enough to let me make a couple passes in it because he had another car in another class that day that he really wanted to concentrate on. and let me tell you, it took all i had in the first 200 feet to not let it go into the wall.
what it comes down to is a built auto is better for serious racing and a manual is better for fun and occasional racing. end of story.

The fastest car I have driven was my uncles vortech supercharged cobra which is probably a 12 sec car which to me and any normal human is fast as hell, but not to the point where its un driveable at all ya no.

IDK.... i've driven a low 11's foxbody with a C4 and a reverse manual valve body and i had zero problems controlling it. i think if my left foot was involved at all it might have neded badly for both me and the car...... (and yes i know how to drive stick, if you dont your a retarded monkey, it' stupid easy.)

the first stick i ever drove was a no assist, double clutch, reverse pattern, 1950 something former military jeep.

But I got it all the way to a whopping 35 MPH in top gear..about all they were designed to do.
