ok so i have the engine raised and the underside of the mounts resting on bolts like in the steps.....but there still is not enough room....did they put bigger trans casings on some models or bigger oil pans....it's almost looking like i have to pull the trans

have you tried loosening the trans mount?

i gave up trying to pull the pan....i can move the pan around enough to get to the pump and gasket......

you didnt try unbolting the motor did you? that would probly give you a little more wiggle room

unbolting the motor...as in the mounts....yeah the motor is sitting on top of the the mount(i have the bolt on the frame side and the engine side mount is sitting on the bolt) and the tranny mount is unbolted..

if i raise more i would run the risk of breaking lines from the trans...the lines are directly on the undercarriage

it's the tranny inspection cover.....

at first i didn't know what it was or anything.....i thought they were talking about the oil pan for the tranny.....

so i've gotten the starter off to pull the dust cover......but it won't "slide" out

from having worked on both a 305 SBC and a 454 BBC, the starter should just drop down (make sure your batt is unhooked for safety reasons) then the dust cover drops as well.
