Default looking to buy an '03

well i came across an '03 dakota with the 3.9L in it. i currently own a '93 dakota with the 3.9, but when test driving this newer truck, it felt like it had a lot more *****. this made me very interested. now, the guy wants 8 grand CDN for the truck. no rust, no dents, no scratches, no previous accidents. no engine codes stored in the computer. its bone stock except it has new brakes, exhaust, not sure on KMs, but i know they are low. rides nice. drives beautifily. smokes the tires way better than my current '93 3.9L. it has a LSD but its only 2WD. if i buy it i will only have been the 3rd owner. now, the only thing is, is this is my GFs sisters friend who is selling me the truck. he is willing to do payments under a contract. he only wants 8 grand because that will basically pay off what he still owes on the truck.

now what do you guys think? fair price for everything hes willing to do and the condition of the truck? or am i a fool?

and im not sure if everyone knows, but 8,000 CDN is 6621.22 american.

depending on exact miles, it sounds like a decent deal to me... have you done a KBB on it?

kelley blue book... for us (southern'ers or whatever yall call us) its like the bible on what a used vehicle is worth...

go to kbb.com and see if entering your zip code will make it canadian or otherwise just use a zip code from like northern new york or whatever state is closest to you and you can get the trade in, private party or retail value for it

so i looked into the KBB, and from what i could enter (didnt see ext. cab...), they said 4,185 US. now, like i was initially saying in the first gen forum, they are going for around 6 grand CDN. in my opinion, i think 8 grand is still acceptable

I looked it up for my zip code, with a few common options, and it came up with $6400-6800 US.

I don't know if you read this in the 1st gen section, cause I edited an older post in the thread to include it, so I'll just add it here also...

Or another thing you can do is call your insurance company and ask them what they would value the car at, cause you don't want to pay more than what theyd give you if it got totalled on the way home! There are lots of ways to get screwed on the price of a used car, and thats an often overlooked one. When I was working at the body shop, we got an '08 chevy suburban come in the fall of '07 with less than 2000 miles and 30 day tags on it. The sticker was in the glove box... $51,000 and some change! The lady totalled it and owed more on it than the insurance company would give since a car looses so much value the instant you drive it off the lot. I know this truck your looking at is used and not new, but my point is don't pay more than the insurance company will value it for and you likely won't go wrong.
