Unhappy 2000 Dakota No Bus Error - Replaced the ECM - Still get No Bus Error

Well this is just about enough to make me cry.

It's been a month without my 2000 Dakota 2.5L 4cyl.
One day all the gauges went to ZERO and the engine died.
The odometer read "no bus error", the engine icon lit up, followed seconds later by an icon fuel pump like when the fuel is low.

Everything I read about "no bus error" says the ECM went bad.

I just got my remanufactured ECM and installed it. Reconnected the battery. Got in and turned the key...I still get the "no bus error".

Nothing has changed except my wallet is now $300 thinner.

Anybody? Help?
What is the significance of the engine icon, followed by the fuel icon?

Rick

Mine came on once when i left some ground wires off at the PS bracket.

Here's another thread where the culprit was crank position sensor.
Suggested identification of the problem is to unplug all the sensors and see if the No Bus will go away. Thats an indication of a shorted our sensor.

PS as on Power Steering? And thanks for the other lead. Unplug all the sensors, huh? I have a service manual that shows where all of 'em are. Woouldn't that be sweet?!

Thank you, sir.

BINGO!
I finally ended up taking it to a shop and it was indeed the crankshaft positioning sensor! The only one I couldn't reach! So it may not have been the PCM. Seems some collateral damage may have been the instrument cluster, which still isn't giving out anything but the truck once again is running.

A BIG FYI - the PCM is about the ONLY electrical part covered by the basic Powertrain Warranty offered by used vehicle dealers. But you must go through a certified mechanic's shop - you can't purchase and install it yourself to be covered by the warranty.
