2001 Dakota 4.7 V8 Balljoint issues
Hi to all:
Could you please help me and walk me through the steps that I need to do to replace the balljoint in the driver side? My mechanical skills are in the medium level. But I want to do this.
Thank you

You either have to replace the entire upper control arm which is about $100 each or you have to cut off the old balljoints that are riveted on with a hacksaw and a drill and some well placed smacks of a hammer. I would suggest just replacing the control arms because you get new bushings and it would be a much easier job. Remember to get it aligned after you are done.
I would actually suggest replacing just the ball joints. You only need the drill and a ball joint separator, plus the normal tools (sockets, etc.). Why? Because then you can get a good ball joint like Spicer professional grade. Very beefy.
But it is worth looking at the bushings, too.

#1 you should have the ball joint recall done already on your truck, and #2. replace just the ball joints.. its cake, i should have a previous thread about doing both the lower and upper ball joints on both sides.. had to do all 4 back in april.. took some time but wasnt hard
The lower ones are a bitch to get out if you have no way of heating them. In my past experience, I would take it to a shop and have them press them out. The uppers are simple and take no time at all
Im actually doing mine either tomorrow or friday. But luckely we have a press at work so im not too concerned about it being difficult. I got the Napa replacement ones that are greasable. Hopefully if I keep them greased they will last a lot longer then the first ****ty set. When the recall was done on mine they must of drilled out the revits because mine are bolted in, which makes it that much easier.
