rip off, i had a caliper replaced on my truck for $120 including the part.. it failed on my way to a friends house and happened to be by a garage that repaired my oil pan plug. get yourself a service manual and do your front brakes ( do both sides) yourself. it's cake work

agreed, he's takin you for a sucker... i did my front brakes, pads, and rotors, for less then 30....the caliper i can get for $40 new. I got the hook-up. but ya, tell that dude to walk off a cliff. the brake line is the only thing that holds the caliper on( minus the 2 pins that connect it to the caliper bracket.) pull the line off, quickly attached new one (just so you dont lose all your fluid), put back together, then bleed the system, starting with the pass, read, drv, rear, pass frt, drv, front. peice of cake. the calipers i do not beleive have to be changed in pairs, the pads yes...

Rip off. I got my caliper for 40.00 at auto zone then for brakes are only like 30 for 2 sides. For rear drum pads i know they are only like 26.00. Not sure about rotors but its not worth 500 you could do it yourself for like 100 and they are not that hard to do. Front is cake to do rear is harder but if you can take pics or just the other side as a reference then it will be fairly easy.

Yeah, really if you can turn a wrench you can do this job yourself for half of that. Especially if you have a service manual.

thanx guys. i was figuring about 300.I do all the other work myself on the truck. theres something about brakes that get me nervous. everyone laughs at me cause theve seen me with the tranny apart, but I wont touch brakes. I know its suppossed to be easy as hell. Ill bite the bullet one more time.

You took a tranny apart? That's disgusting.

yes it is. I rebiult most of the engine too. do all the work on my other trucks. I know what ive been taught. alot of time I learn from my mistakes. Ive had so many trannys go
that Ive had the time to understand them a little. I would only go so far with the dodge its pretty complacated. not like the old mote or the jeeps. Ive got the brakes to do on the van. Ill do them myself so I wont feel brake impared. thanx richie

if you really can take apart a tranny or a motor then doing brakes is like 2+2 and there is no reason to pay someone to do that.

I just replaced my brake pads again, on my 2003. I got the Autozone cheaper lifetime pads, only $20 for the pair in the front. They last me about 40,000 and now all the times it is free for me to replace my brake pads. You just have to bring in the old pads to swap with them for the new pads. I just had to replace one brake caliber and it was $65 at Autozone, $120 you don't bring the old caliber back ($55 core charge) but I brought my old caliber when I picked up the new one so it only cost about $68 with taxes. So you could change both calibers and brake pads for $140 if you did them yourself. It is very easy, dirty, but easy. The hard part about changing brake pads is getting the calibers cylinders pushed back in so you can slide it back over the new pads.

Get a manual and you will start saving hundreds of dollars if you are willing to do the work yourself.
