yeah...use a scanner and reset your engine and transmission fault codes. should do the trick. had an 0500 (rear sensor open) and had no speed reading. put the tranny in limp-in mode. this did the trick with me...but yet again...i havent done the swap yet.

if that doesnt work...then chances are the solenoids in your tranny are going bad.

The solenoids aren't bad... they're non-existant. When you put in a manual transmission and all those automatic transmission control harnesses have nothing to plug into, the computer doesn't know what to do.

theres a solenoid that tells the computer when to display the shift light. that solenoid could be bad...or there could be faulty connections on that circut or on the circtu the speed sensor operates on.

Well if your doing a swap with a 5.9 expect tranny problems. The NV1500 just isnt built to handle the torque that the 360 puts out. Its tough, and if you drive it without bashing too much it will hold up but ultimately they wont last. Ive had the scrap yard one, then replaced that with a 1 year unlimited mile warranty one, sent that one back before the year was up bc it was starting to rattle, and im currently in the third one. But im pretty sure this doesnt have anything to do with the swap, but it may, over the last couple of years i have had this stalling type of engine problem when you first start it, and on sporadic occasions it does the same thing if the RPMS get below 1k and you give it more than half throttle. Ive posted another thread about this, its been open for 3 years now, ive talked to every dodge mechanic around and no one has a solution.

When you crank it up will it idle at all without giving it gas? And if you give it gas while you're cranking will it crank up? It sounds like the problem I was having.

No its not like that. its hard to describe. It runs just fine, i drive it everyday, it doesnt stall out and die, just from time to time when you give it more than half throttle the best way i can describe it is it acts like the exhaust is backed up, or the motor just lost about 150hp, you can tell the engine just gets smothered out. and before anyone says it, its not the cat, it doesnt have one on there.

Wouldn't the best way to complete the electronics part of the installation be to go get the harness and pcm out of a Ram that had the 5.9 & 5 speed?

I know, easier said than done, they are probably hard to find in the wrecking yards. But it really would take care of all the orphan sensors and solenoid leads left over from the automatic.

I don't think I'd use a nv2500, ever.
