Heater core is a pita to do its kinda easy but very time consuming. My buddy got a 98 3.9 sport 5 speed 4x4 club cab 85,000miles needed nothing for 4 grand

Too much for problems. Get something else. And get the V8. Same gas mileage, Much more power.

it's up to you but a v8 will serve you much better! v6 is under powered in this truck.

too much for the problems..an the heatercore requires you take the ENTIRE dash off to get it out...and then if it turns out you got a bad one you have to pull the dash off again to replace it

if someone can find me a gen2 dakota with under 100k miles, v-8 stick, extended cab, 2wd for under $3000 in the midwest, i have cash. idont care about power i owned a gen1 94 v6 auto that suited me just fine even with using a tow dolley (i got one with electric brakes to be safe) i towed a lot of stuff with it and it was just fine. i sold the truck to pay some bills last year but i got money agian that truck pulled 18mpg towing and 22-24 empty. i was plenty happy with that. in tech school i replaced a heater core in a 87 mustang gt it was a pita cuz i had to pull the hole dash. when i was in hs i had a 85 mustang and it took 10 min to change heater core. if i put a new one it, i always pressure test them befor installing cuz i know in shipping the things get dinged around. so it seems the consensus of all the great dakota people i should pass on a 2000 v6 5speed 2wd extended cab truck that has 90k with a bad heater core and cluster prbo. ok i'll keep looking and if anyone know of a perfect truck for under $3k as i said im in need of i'll buy it. but it's gotta be within 300 miles of s-e MN.

Well it sounds like you know what you want and if your set of getting that truck then just do it, but when we try to give you advice since you asked for opinions, don't jump all over when what we say isn't what you want to here.

Plain and simple he's asking too much. I wouldn't pay more than $1500 for it, but he most likely won't come down that far. Good luck to whatever you decide to do.
