So I know this is probably a subject that has been beaten to death before, but I just have to pose the question...

What is the best way to lower an R/T? I don't want it slammed, I don't want it to ride like sh**, I just want a nice rake. My experience is limited to Chevy lowering (I've had two V8 S10s) and I lowered them with spindles and leaf springs. So would control arms and leafs be the best way to go?

I ask this question because at some point in the near future, the front end of my truck is due for a slight overhaul. I'd like to go ahead and lower it while I'm in there, and if I go with control arms in the front, thats two less ball joints and four less control arm bushings to buy.

 

arms and leaf shackles would be the best route,
lowering leafs dont have the same spring rate and they'll allow for more twist of the axle at a launch, therefore, no hook

 

something like maybe a 3"/4" drop?

 

i think hotchkins makes the best kit out there, but it is ridiculously expensive.

 

Ridiculously expensive = no good I'm not wanting to road course it or anything, but I do race it and I do play around in it so axle wrap is one thing to avoid. The truck handles really well with the stock setup even after 10 years.

I got belltech springs and leafs and then put those on and...well it goes...

Here is a Cheap and easy way to lower your truck. 1 go put some flipped shackle hangers off a 4x4 dakota. This will net you 3" lower in the back. Next get an oxy ace torch and heat the coils until they start to fall once your at the right height stop. Do same on the other side. Cost you maybe 50-90 bucks for everything.

 

I think this is one of the examples of me wanting my cake and eat it too. I definately won't spend $1000 for so for a hotchkis setup, but I do want some ride quality. I figure $320 for control arms, $50 drop shocks for the front, $200 leaf springs and $50 for shocks in the back. I don't have any slicks to run on so while I would need some Caltracs I could handle it without.

I only hope that I can cure my vibration ills while in the process.
