How To: Fix bumper rust
I was crawling around under the truck this weekend checking out some work I'd recently had done and discovered this scab of rust on the underside of the rear bumper.
How do I fix this before winter sets in?

the only way to fix rust is to sand it down to bare metal and repaint it. Both my front and back bumpers are starting to rust, Im going to take them both off, sand them down and repaint them.
You can use some rust inhibitor paint. Tons of options of brands. Here is the fist one that I Googled. http://www.rustbullet.com/
dodge and their crappy bumpers my rear one is done for no way it can be saved. I took my front one off last summer and tried to get as much bare metal as I could but when I took it off couple months ago I noticed its starting to come threw again. I even noticed a little bit starting on the rear bumper of our 07 hemi looks like that is coming off before all the salt hits the roads
ya my rear bumper is in bad shape. Its gonna get some lovin from my angle grinder with a wire brush on it! Hope its not a recurring thing like dodgeramguy's. My half-*** repair last year didnt last but Im blaming my laziness on that one lol
Here is mine after I did it I was going to take all those small supposrts off but I got 2 off and the bolts were so rusty that they all broke so I didnt take any more off and sanded as much as I could I used 2 coats of rustoleum on it

Thanks for the feedback, looks like I've got my work cut out for me. The truck will take a little less of a beating this winter... I didn't buy ski passes.

Bumper is finally all fixed.
After removing it from the truck, I took off the painted fascia pieces, got rid of the multiple scab's of rust, sanded and then hit it with six coats of black Rustoleum and two coats of undercoating spray.
The finish in this first pic looks a little bumpy. Sprayed it on a little too thick and discovered that undercoating spray doesn't dry too quickly. So, it's not lingering rust, just a lot of bubbly undercoating!

Here's the whole inside of the bumper with a nice thick layer of undercoating spray. I'm leaving it on the workbench for a few days to cure up.

Looks good. When I half assed (to be honest) my rear bumper I learned just how long it takes to dry. I hope that works well for ya, Ill be doing the same as soon as I can drive my subbie so I can get my kota off the road and in the garage
Just an FYI when I reinstalled mine it was a snug fit, I noticed you painted the brackets. Just thought Id give ya a heads up that if you undercoated them they may be to thick.
One last thought, how many cans of undercoat and paint you use? My painting list is looong so Ill get extra anyways but just so I can get an idea

Hey Roamin' I didn't paint the brackets. Like you said, they were a snug fit already. Plus, there was no rust or other corrosion on them.
I used two can's of paint (Rustoleum) and one (big) can of undercoating.
