Well first off what are you lookin to do? Drag, off-road or just more power, thats the first bit.

Personaly I would build your 4.7. Or at least look into the laws and such for a swap. Id have LOTS of hoops to go thru cause mine is OBD2 so come time for fun Ill get a 1st gen to play with

true, Im looking to build it for the track, if i do a 5.9 its getting stroked to a 408 and if a 5.7 i havent figured out what id do for that yet. But i would like to get into the 11's or low 12's with or without a supercharger

im all for more power. but if you are wanting speed, buy a car. Our trucks are on the heavy side to begin with.

personally I would do the hemi or my second choice is the 5.9. Swapping them really depends on your skills you need to make different mounts and what not. stroking the 4.7 is def the easiest way to go

I have never seen a kit out there to stroke the 4.7. Have a link? I know the HO version has a better crank and cams. You can upgrade to high performance bearings and pistons. But it isn't cheap.

For the money I would put a hemi in if you can track one down.

swapping a Cummins in a Dakota is a huge undertaking! Look up the Banks Dakota for some info.

The chances of you getting into the 11's w/out any power adders isn't good. The easiest thing would be building your 4.7. But w/ the amount of aftermarket support you're not going to get too far with it. Just cams, pistons, (I don't know of a stroker kit), headers, true duals, intake, superchips... But even with all that your not close to 11's. You will need to putting down close to if not more then 500 to the wheels to break 11's. My uncle had a 98 vortech s/c'ed cobra with 460hp to the wheels and it was a low 12 second car that weighs ~6-700 lbs less then your truck.

A fully built 408 will probably get you close though.

But getting the hp is only half the battle. Once you finally do obtain 500hp, now you have a whole lot of other things to deal with. Tranmission, suspension, and the fuel system will all need to be upgraded to handle 500 hp. Our trucks were in no way intended to make that kind of power. You will never make it down a strip on the stock suspension and your transmission will be laying in the road after a couple passes with that power. Plus the stock injectors and fuel pump would be able to keep up.

Its a HUGE undertaking to take a truck with 200-215 to the wheels and make it into an 11sec drag vehicle. I'm not saying it can't be done, but think about everything that has to go into it to get that truck into that kind of bracket.
