Default changed oil filter fixed oil pressure dropoff!

Greetings Dodge Dakota Gang members,

My 1997 5.2 litre Dakota Sport was having the oil pressure gauge drop to zero after warmed up at a red light. I had a FRAM filter on it.
I purchased a WIX $6.00 oil filter, put it on, and the problem was solved...the oil pressure doesn't drop at red lights anymore.

The Fram has bigger openings in the filter. There for its more "free flowing" I guess you could say, which leads to low oil pressure when at idle. The WIX filters are supposed to be good, my father used to always use them. So it probably actually filters better which in turn leads to a little more oil pressure.

I think Purolater makes the Mopar and Motorcraft filters. Wix makes Napa. And Fram I feel is not good at all.

Thats because Fram makes some of the Mopar filters. So you may actually have a Fram filter.

And to Brutus, there are a couple different companies that make the Mopar filters. I think Fram is one and Purolator is another. I forget what the 3rd one is...

I use the napa filters same price as the fram ones, and they are a lot better.

Yeah Napa filters are supposed to be good filters. They're made by WIX who make good filters.

I believe the oil pressure sending unit is downstream of the filter, and therefore the filter should make no difference at all.
I use a Napa Gold filter, and the pressure falls at idle, which it should anyways.
