Default Seafoam

Hey folks I'm a new member and I'll intrudce myself a little later I just had a quick question, I just got a 2000 Dakota 4.7 V8. I was just wondering how many of you use Seafoam on your trucks and how many change the oil right after. I'm debating on using some but have heard some negative feedback lately. Thanks guys.

How many miles does your truck have? Most run it through the oil for 5-10 minutes then change it right after. You can't leave it in too long. It thins out the oil.

Default Seafoam

So the truck has about 148K miles and I've always been told to change the oil right after so I already planned on doing that. I'm just debating on using it because I've heard from some people that when the seafoam cycles through your engine it sometimes clogs up your intake valves which are pretty pricey to change out. The truck runs just fine I just figured it couldn't hurt since I don't know whole history and w/ that many miles a good cleaning couldn't hurt. Thanks again

The only thing to worry about with that many miles is sometimes seafoam will unmask oil leaks. It won't cause them, but they might not be leaking (badly) due to deposits keeping the oil in. If you remove those deposits, then the oil will be able to leak.

This is one area where seafoam can get a bad rap. Again, it doesn't cause oil leaks, it reveals ones that are already there, but might be masked.

I don't think its real necessary if you change your oil on a regular 3k miles basis. And sense you said its running fine, I guess I don't think there is a big need too. Are you running conventional or synthetic oil?

it doesnt clog the intake valves, it cleans them!! thats why you suck it thru a vac hose, to clean the valves.
