Would it be possible to put a Hemi in a 1998 Dakota Sport 4X4?

Does the year of the Dakota matter for a Hemi swap? Would it be possible to put a Hemi in a 1998 Dakota Sport 4X4?

Anythings possible .. The best swap to do is a 4.7-to 5.7 . The motor and trans. bolt together and the computers are close.. I have a 1995 Jeep Wrangler I would LOVE TO PUT A Hemi in , but I would probably have to swap to carb. and distributor .. That would cost too much..

hemidak I have been following this thread for quite a while now doing my swap to a 2001 4x4 Dakota. ive got the engine in and driving but I cant get the transmission to shift out. I have a 5.7 from a 2003 ram that I dropped in. my question is do I need the tcm to make it shift out?

Did you get the ecm from the Ram donor truck ? If so it should be a single box instead of a split "ecm"-"tcm" like the 2001 came with. That's the one you should use.. I would get a 2004 if possible they're easier to tune and manage . Also , did you use the trans from the Dak- or the Hemi trans ? I need more info to be sure of the problem ..

Yes I got the ecm from the donor truck. I used the transmission that was in the dakota. Im thinking that I have a wire or 2 maybe wrong. Not sure though.

Did you get the complete wiring harness from the Hemi ? It should have came with some transmission plugs , make sure you have them all plugged in tight and no clipped wires..The Dak. Harness won't work .. Also check the harness coming from the cab. behind the left wheel.. If you have wires cut look the colors up on my thread and find out where they go...
