I have 99 Dakota and was wondering if anyone else has been able to put in a LED light under the tailgate and above the bumper. it seems to me that there is not much room for anything to be seen.

i've tried and the light sticks out to far and you wont be able to put the tailgate down. You could put it up higher but i think it looks trashy. I took mine back and said the turn signals didnt work

 

I have a 04 Dakota and the tailgate sticks below the top of the bumper, so couldn't mount it there. I had mine mounted 2 ways before the bar died and I removed it.
1st - I removed all of the self-adhesive pads, flipped the bar upside down, and screwed it to the stock plastic bedliner on the tailgate.
2nd - After I had a tonneau cover installed, I made a piece of angle iron that I bolted to a channel in the tonneau cover. I then bolted the bar to the angle iron.
1st way worked ok, had to be careful to make sure I didn't rip the bar off. 2nd way worked great, would still have it if the bar hadn't died.

 

So was that then mounted on the top of the tailgate? I also have a tonneau cover installed. Do have any pics of this installed?

I don't have any pictures of it installed, but I'll take some pictures of the mount and bar this weekend. Here's a paint drawing of how I had it mounted.
Black is the cover, red is the angle iron, blue is the bar, green is the tailgate, and gray is bolts.

alright thanks alot, a little different then what i would think to do, being above the tailgate but if it works that would be sweet.
