HELP! TIMING CHAIN PROB!
ok, just bought my 97 dak, but needs new timing chain. it didn't have a lot of oil on it. It was wet and all, but not soaked. The mechanics thought it should have tons more! is that so or do i have low oil pressure. How would i tell if i have low oil pressure, i mean where is the needle on the gauge supposed to be at? HELP ME WITH MY NEW TRUCK PLEASE!!!

RE: HELP! TIMING CHAIN PROB!
At idle if your truck sounds like its rattling, sorta like a can of marbles, then you need a new timing chain. The timing chain case itself should be getting oil regularly. If its dry then you might have a problem with your oil pump, if its got oil on it i wouldnt worry about it. You should have oil pressure between 40 and 60 psi. I know that on mine my pressure goes up when i rev the truck, but thats normal. Just make sure its never below 40psi.

RE: HELP! TIMING CHAIN PROB!
when I did mine on the 2000 ram I dont recall there being alot of oil on it either... one suggestion though is to get a good double roller set to replace it. stock ones suck.

RE: HELP! TIMING CHAIN PROB!
depending on the year, you will need 1 of 2 different crank pulley/harmonic balancer pullers... if the pulley is part of the balancer then you need this one... if not then there is a STD puller you can get. rent them from autozone and they will be free. pay for the tool, then they refund your cost when you return it.
