Jiffy lube
Hey guys i'm looking to take my truck in to get the transmission fluid and fitler replaced, The cheapest place i found was jiffy lube. But i'm kind of nervous about taking it there because they say they use a universal transsmission fluid and i know that dodge trucks require ATF+4 The guy at jiffy lube said there fluid was universal and would work in my dodge. Anyone have any experiance with jiffy lube? Is there fluid compatible with ATF+4?
I am not sure on the ATF, my Dakota is a 5-speed manual. I think the ATF is supposed to be ATF+4 fluid, they guys here with automatics will tell you for sure or you can read your owner's manual or call the Dodge dealer.
If you ask me, no I would not let Jiffy Lube put generic universal type fluid in the transmission or anything else either. You could get it done with the right parts at the Dodge dealer or a transmission shop for probably the same or close to the same price.
I have heard way too many horror stories to trust places like Jiffy Lube. Just my 2 cents...

Yeah you need ATF+4 and its something you should have done right. You don't do it very often so even if one place is $10 more, if they're going to do it right, then its worth it.
I don't think I would trust Jiffy Lube. There is probably a reason its cheapest, because they are putting fluid that is not good enough in.

Yes, you need ATF+4 fluid. (Transmission, transfer case [for 4x4], and some years power steering)
http://www.centerforqa.com/licensedatf4brands.html -- This page lists all the brands that are officially licensed by Chrysler, to make/sell ATF+4 fluid.
So, in a technical sense, the exact fluid you get from the dealer, should be as good as Wal-Marts "SuperTech" ATF+4.
Also, and this is something some people don't know: ALL ATF+4 is synthetic by nature. A few years ago, Chrysler changed its Mopar bottles to reflect this. So, don't let them sell you a "synthetic ATF+4" somewhere instead of "regular" ATF+4. It's all the same.
But ATF+4 is not the same as Dexron/Mercon, and no additive can make it the same.
If it ain't ATF+4, don't let it inside your transmission.

Yeah, Hell with jiffy, firestone, expert tire, Midas, all those quickie oilchange places. I used to deliver parts for a salvage yard and Guess who was our #1 customers for engines and transmissions. Think about it. is it really worth the life of your ride to save a couple bucks on a fluid change??? I think not. And then you have some who say " well hell if they screw it up they'll just get me another engine". Hmmm, lets see... These guys can't seem to handle a simple fluid change and you want to let them attempt an engine swap???? 1st piece of advice, find a reputible mechanic to handle your needs, 2nd would be to learn to perform the work yourself. But unless you just Don't care about your ride and/or plan to get rid of it anyway, I wouldn't be letting anyone earning minimum wage or getting paid by how many cars they can roll through as quick as possible, even change my wiper blades. much less handle a main component of my machine.
I have had 3 T-techs done at our local Speedlube with no problems. The manager there knew that ATF+4 was the only fluid compatible with the newer Chrysler trannys and that it is a synthetic derivative. I also stood right there and watched the service being performed, which he had no problem with. Sure there are some of these places that screw up but I think for the most part they are safe to use. After all they aren't going to make any money or keep many customers replacing engines and trannys often.
My haynes manual says dexron iii, for the NP231 anway. Maybe you're thinking of a different case?
