I was generally referring to anything that is stick on and chrome looking. Letter, trim, it doesn't matter. That crap is going to peel and flake and not be nice and shiny for very long.
This is one of my pet peeves about my truck. Everything that is chrome on it, whether it is the letters on the door or the badges on the fender or the bumper or the grill is slowly becoming not chrome, resulting in my needing to continually clean and rub and buff and then still not being completely happy with the results...
Nice thing is that the chrome effect is really easy to eliminate. So, if all you can find is chrome, just buy it and de-chrome it. Few bucks in supplies and you have a custom paint shop capable of color mathcing any trim piece to your truck
