Default Do ~02 Dakota's have Transponder Keys? (SKIM)

Hey guys I'm tryin to figure out if Dakota's use the SKIM system. I'm doing an NV3500 swap in my 4.7 Grand Cherokee, and I'm rockin a Dakota computer. I fired it for the first time tonight, but it died shortly after with the SKIM (Sentry Key Immobilizer System) light was illuminated on the dash. I was under the impression that these trucks didn't have this system, but I found no hard evidence.

Can you guys help me out?

I don't know what the Dakota had key wise, but I'm pretty sure this computer did have skim. I tried unplugging the skim module, which turned off the dash light, but I tried starting it and it died after a few seconds again

Ok wait im confused here ive had long day so maybe thats why but why are you using a dak computer shouldnt you be using a jeep computer cause I think the jeep will act different with a dak computer even tho its a 4.7 I still dont think it will work and your jeep would of had skim. Can someone explain this to me?

Well I'm finishing up a 5 speed swap (NV3500) in my Grand Cherokee, and they never were offered with manuals. That means there isn't a Jeep computer out there that will work smoothly with the 5 speed. The Dakota, on the other hand, was offered with the 4.7 and the 5 speed. The engines are identical between the two, along with the computers and the pin outputs for them. So I stripped all the automatic transmission wiring out of my Grand Cherokee wiring harness, and got a 4.7 5-speed Dakota computer.

All my gauges still work, and it fired RIGHT up the first try, but the SKIM system killed it a few seconds later. I have friends at a dodge dealership so I'm going to get the SKIM code in the PCM reprogrammed to match my current SKIM module and transponder key's codes

This is cheating, but here's it running with the Grand Cherokee computer (pretty pissed off though because it's still looking for the auto tranny

Thanks man!

I forgot to mention, the trans swap spiraled into rebuilding the top end of the motor...so it has fresh heads on it too!

While I was in the process of putting things back together

The wiring harness with all the auto crap removed (automatic stuff is the right section)

The snow got deep...hehehe

Both of those snow pics were taken within a month of my trans taking a crap
