I'm really looking for a car and NOT a subaru. Everyone and their hippy brother has one in Vermont. It's terrible. Only one I would consider is a 04 or newer sti, but I can't afford that.

I guess the options are slim. I'm really looking for an s4. I read consumer reviews of them and all were very positive. My room mate has an a4 now and has about 180k miles on it, only thing outside of regular mantaince was a wheel bearing.

Not looking for an suv or even a small suv. I want a car. Something I can have a little fun to drive. HAS to be a manual.

And it will stay pretty much stock. Nothing more then an intake or exhaust.

I'm coming to realize that my options are pretty slim. Living in New England can suck. If I were to be somewhere where it doesn't usually snow, I wouldn't need awd, and could get something more fun...

How about an Eclipse GSX? Other than that, I am thinking WRX STi.
Those are pretty fun. A friend of mine has a TSi, which is essentially the same thing.

I'd go for a subie WRX, the A4/S4 have electrical problems from what i've heard. Theirs also the Subie Impreza 2.5RS, Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4, Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX, VW passat W8 4 motion, and Volvo S60R/S70R.

Go for the 3000GT VR-4! I completely forgot about those. I've heard you can up the boost and get 300hp on a stock one.

Link doesn't work...

Yeah VR4's are really cool, but trying to find one is really tough. Even tougher then finding an s4

i know u didn't want a small suv but if u can find a used jeep compass there not bad.
my dad has one 4wd w/ a dohc 2.4L(w/ 172hp) i think. i drove it upstate a few times and was great on hills. great on gas and i think u can get them in awd too.
his is stock but i saw i nice one w/ dual exaust, so i guess ppl mod them.
