Anyone change U Joints without a press?
I am going to try and change my U joints on the rear propeller shaft of my 2001 Quad Cab 4X4. Just wanted to see if anyone has changed these out before without a press. Thanks.
absolutely. They make a specialty tool that looks linda like a c-clamp that uses an impact and socket.

A sturdy vise, a couple of large drifts, and a BMF hammer. Did the joints on my old 4X4 Ranger. Should work on a Dak, too.
You can use the vise as a press, also. Just need some old sockets that are larger than the end caps of the joints.

X3. Just make sure everything is clean and grit free. Pack a little grease in the cap to hold the needles and be patient but firm with them. Don't forget to reward yourself with a few beers afterwards for a job well done!
