Default Exhaust Question

I know I ask alot of questions on here and thank yall for answering! I'm trying to learn more and more about cars and in the meantime make my truck the way I want it.

Ok so my question is:
If I cut my exhaust off under the bed, and put a turn down on, will it be ok? I know that your technically supposed to have a cad and muffler, and that it has to extend past the cab of the truck, but I really want straight pipes and I figured if I made them short no one could see that their straight pipes... So would it cause a loss of pressure or something if I make them short like that?

Plus in that case it'd be uh.... FREE lol. And I'm a poor college kid.

Ok, I dont understand if you cut off your muffler that it would increase back pressure. if anything it would decrease it. Thats why when you run straight pipes you lose down end power but gain it back and then some up top. For daily driving straight pipes is horrible for gas mileage, since You have no back pressure at normal RPM's.

Are you going to cut it before the muffler or after? Cuz I'm pretty sure thunder dumped his right after the muffler. If you run it w/ no muffler it's going to be LOUD and annoying. If you spend $30 at Autozone you can get one of those raptor mufflers and then put a turn down on it.

Muffler- $30
Clamp- $3
Turn down tip- $5

DONE. And it wont sound like crizzap.
