Lightbulb Has anyone "Built" the stock 3.9L V-6 in the 2001 modles

I'm going to overhaul aka completely rebuild the stocker 3.9L V-6 in my 2001 dakota quad cab 4x4. What i want to know is if anyone has ever turbocharged and supercharged this motor so i can get a leg up with some direction in the parts readily available department or am is this gonna be a complete one-off build? If anyone has any insights at all about it i'd appreciate a reply. Thanks everybody.

It's not worth the money. You would be better off going with a 5.2 or 5.9 engine swap. You'll get more power out of those engines for cheaper.

^yup. However, I have heard that the superchargers for the 5.9 will fit as the blocks are basically the same. There are also universal tubocharging kits out there that you will be able to use. But doing all this will only give you about what the stock v8 put out so swaping in a V8 will probably be the easiest, especially since its a very easy swap.

What all would i need to swap in the 5.9? WOuld the tranny, transfer, and differentials hold up? I would assume they all would need to be upgraded to handle the power of the bigger 5.9. Only thing is I'd need to find the computer and wiring harness for the 5.9 to be able to run it properly wouldnt I?

All those parts are the same between the 3.9 and 5.9. It is literally the same motor but with 2 cylinders chopped off. You'll just have to splice in 2 more injectors and spark plugs. Do some searching this is a common topic.
