what upgrades to do to my 5.2 magnum?
ok so i have a 1999 dodge dakota 4x4 5.2L 5spd and i wanna get more power out of it what are some good upgrades to do to my motor?
i have done exhaust and will be doing a cold air intake.
i am looking to spend about $1000 (im NOT a mechanic though)
im not gonna put on a supercharger , turbo, nos , or headers(for now), so basically what else is a good upgrade to do? and how much will it cost plus how long should it take a mechanic to install it?
plus if you know of any good sites were i can find these parts leave a link for it.

Well best way to do upgrades without sepending a lot of money is first dont take it to someone and have them do it thats where you loose all your money plus its just no fun. Everyone on here is intelligent in some way and we can help you get threw pretty much anything on these trucks. One thing to do is get a superchips they really help out.
I wouldnt waste money on a Superchip now that we have the option of SCT i would go that route and have Sean (aka hemifever) tune it for you, or just buy it with can tunes if you don't plan to go big.
Simple addons that you can do are these...
52mm Throttle Body
Delete Clutch Fan (if you have the stock electric fan)
Autolite 3923s Spark Plugs
Tune up - napa Brass rotor and cap, and some type of 8.2-8.5mm Wires
Cold air intake, or Open Element intake, anything is better then stock.
4.10 gears
1.7 roller rockers, Crowler, Harland Sharp whatever.
All that **** you can do by yourself besides the gears, if your only looking to spend 1000 good luck, Mopar is not cheap at all...
If you got headers and had a shop install it, along with a cat, muffler, and custom exhaust that alone your looking at around 1000$
Email Sean at hemifever@aol.com he can hook you up with a SCT unit and some can tunes for now 93 octane and 87 octane tunes, that alone is the best bang for your buck at the moment.
Good luck.

Stock electric fan works fine, just put in a 180 thermostat and you will be golden.
Cam = useless unless you open up the heads/exhaust, cam is somthing you should do last not at the beginning. They do make a "Mopar Perf Cam" that only adds like 10extra hp, but not worth the time to install it.
1.7s you can find for sale on other sites, for about 200$ used, you can get them new for around 300-400$ and cen be installed in about 2 hours by you. Really the 1.7s would be a "cam" for you, they increase the valve lift .1 more air = more hp should get around 10-20hp from them.
I still say get an SCT tuner, you will be very happy with it, just make sure you have hemifever give you the can tunes.
