Default Just picked up a dakota, need help figuring out what rear end i have

Here it goes, just picked up an 02 quad cab 4.7, the sticker in the dash says i have 3.55s. My 96 ram with 3.55s ran around 2k at 70, the dakota on the other hand runs around 2400 rpms . The truck pulls very hard to about 60 and then falls off, and the finale the truck only gets about 16mpg highway. Its also got a locker, is it a possible gear change from the previous owner? factory error? Im running 255-65s on the stock 16s. Im kinda stumped here and any help from you dakota guys would be awesome.

How do you know you have a locker? and 4.11's is pretty high for a truck that doesnt have a lift or anything I could see if you were turning 33's-35's but if its stock its a bit overkill

I do have a locker, i gave it a full tune-up. all sythetic lubricants including a tranny flush and filter. It brought me down to 3300, the torque converter is locking up properly. Its not a real big deal, i was just curious.

it depends on where the PO drove too. because a lower gear will help in start and stop city traffic, it wont be working so hard to accelerate (or simply just move) from a stoplight.

You sure your not confusing with a lsd? A locker is not streetable unless its a air locker or if it is locked all the time I bet your rear tires get wore down fast. In my jeep just when making a turn in the driveway I can feel it jump and on the road if you make a sharp enough turn the one tire sequels. With a locker when its locked both tires spin at the same speed all the time and when you make a turn with a open diff depending on which way you turn one tire spins faster that the opposite tire.

You have it confused with lsd, Our ram can do the same and I know for a fact there is no locker in it. Here is my full time locker in my woods jeep both tires will spin at the same speed all the time no matter what
