Default Starting/Idling Problem

Yesterday I went to start my truck up and it cranked, but would not turn over. I listened and could hear the fuel pump kick on during the next start, but still it would not turn over. So I gave it some throttle and it started up, but immediately died once I took my foot off the gas. So I started it again and it would run as long as I had my foot on the gas. I could hold it at any RPM range, but the moment I left it to idle it would die.

So I took it to a shop. On the way there, it started running perfectly again. It would idle just fine and started immediately up once I got to the shop. The mechanic looked at it and said he couldn't find anything wrong with it...

So I ran it the rest of the day and it worked without hiccup. This morning I got in and it started up fine. I drove for about an hour and a half and took care of a few things. I went to get back in and again it wouldn't start. Same problem as before. So I just drove it (it ran fine as long as I had foot on the gas) home and once I took my foot off to put it in park, it died.

There are no check engine lights on, nothing seems out of place, and while its running there are absolutely no issues. I'm at a loss as to whats going on. Help, please?

EDIT: Its a 99 Dak Sport, 3.9, 157,000 miles, auto, 4x4.

No codes whatsoever. I did check the TPS and it was fine. I did not check the IAC though. I'll give that a shot and see whats up.

Sorry to resurrect this ancient thread, but I'm still having issues.

I've been dealing with the issue in my initial post just by driving two-footed until the truck runs properly. However today I finally got around to replacing the IAC and I am still having the exact same problem. I did notice, though, that once the truck stalls out and I try to restart it, it seems that there isn't enough juice to turn the motor over. My battery seems to be fine, but I was wondering if perhaps the battery dying might be another cause?

Yes that can be check your batt cables and connections. My pos terminal corrods fast for some reason and once in awhile it will give me problems. I will go to start it and click it wont start so after about 10 times of trying the key and then getting back out to mess with my batt it will start but it wont idle then I just run the snot out of it for about 5 min and it will be perfect. One of these days ill go out and pick up a 1.75 terminal lol

I know this post is old but Im having the exact same problem. Thought initially it could be because of the freezes we've been having. But even after the truck warms up it does the same thing.

I am having the same problem also. I found if I drive in first gear (auto tranny) and speed up and let the engine slow me down a couple of times I find it seems to idle. It may take a few times doing this but it eventually idles. If I waite and drive normally it may take 5-10 minutes before it settles out.
I have been told my battery is dying, this may be my cause.

I can't really use my remote start if I am not next to the truck, as I don't know if it stalls out.

Check the battery, make sure it can hold a charge! If it can't hold a change your car might die. Had this issue after a long winter with my truck parked outside.
