Default Never heard this before...

So about 95% of everyone on here knows what an exhaust leak sounds like.

Well I got one, I can tell its coming from the drivers side. So I grab some tools and started to check some bolts. Well some were loose, so I ended up tightening up.. Started the truck back up to hear..nothing.. So I thought I got it taken care of. WRONG! When the engine is warm, I dont get the tick. Only when its colder.

So now my question is this.. Has anyone ever experienced this? What did you do to fix it/ or what was the problem?

Sounds to me like when the metal is expanding from the heat and, as a result, is tightening down on the leak. That's why it is only leaking when it is cold. Sounds like a gasket issue. I don't actually know what kind of gaskets our trucks have on the exhaust manifolds (liquid, metal, etc). So I'll need someone else to chime in on this one (I have never taken mine off).

i have the same exact problem. It is either the donut gasket that is blown(most common) or the there are some slight cracks in the headers that expand and tighten.

Easy fix, i got quoted at a muffler shop that they would do it for 40 bucks.

I was talking with my father in law and he was thinking the same thing... I guess it pays to have a couple gear heads in the family, he said that we could do it.
