Brake issues
hey guys....got break issues.
1st. when i hit the brakes after the truck has been sitting for a few hours they screatch like a big truck. I "think" its my back drums...but i cant tell for sure from in the cab. It usually only does it when im stopping slowly..if i hammer on the brakes it doesnt do it.
It is also ALOT worse if its wet or damp out. Then after i drive/stop a few times it mostly goes away.
also the last 2 weeks if the truck sits during the day while its raining hard when i finally do use the breaks my rear breaks will lock up the minute i touch them....again..it only does it the first time or two i try them.
the Drums are about 8 months old....only new parts.
oh and front are Disk.
any ideas what my problem might be? i think the screatching a the locking are seperate issues...but dunno for sure.
Thanks for any input

mine are the same way. If i'm in the wet, my braking distance is pretty much negative. Except they stay that way with every hit, it doesn't wear off. One heck of a way to learn how to trail brake.

I'm guessing on this issue - I had this once on a Ford I used to own, but not on my dodge.
I'm thinking the rain/humidity causes the brake shoes to swell - then when you hit them they are too tight & lock up. Drum shoes turn into the drum so they kind of pull tighter with the rotation - not sure how to explain that - but a little water in there & they stick. Once the first hard pull on the brakes there is enough heat in there to dry them out.
Just guessing - but if this is the issue - you can try to adjust the brakes out (looser) a bit & see if that helps.
