Default 2003 Dakota Taillight Issue

I have a 2003 Dodge Dakota. The tail lights are not coming on when I turn the headlights on. I checked all bulbs and fuses, all are fine. Where do I go from here?

do brake lights and turn signals work? What about turn signals with brakes applied?

Tail lights are almost always a fuse. If however that isn't the case it could be a ground wire. Did you recently add a trailer harness?

Re-check the fuses - then start searching for a ground wire - not sure where - you can add one specifically from the tail light to the frame just to be sure.

If there are no blown fuses or other obvious problems related to trailer wiring, bad grounds, etc you may have a bad Central Timer Module. You can download the 2001 Dakota service manual from the link at the top of the 2nd Gen page here and then use the wiring diagram in it for the CTM to check the headlight switch input to the CTM and the output from the CTM to the tail lights with a volt meter. Or the Dodge dealer can check the CTM for you and diagnose the tail light problem.

Ive had an issue where the tail lights came unplugged at the pigtail a few feet away from the light. It kept popping out cuz the clip was broken... Might check the wiring from the lights and see if thats your issue.
