Default 03 Dakota v6 Water Pump

How difficult it is to replace the water pump on my 03 v6 Dakota? Any special tools needed?

Thanks in advance!

Mark

I'm not 100% sure about the 3.7 but my 3.9 was pretty easy just time consuming and you had to open the cooling system which is a b**ch but overall it only took me an afternoon.

PITA!!!!!

remove your alt, and AC Pump and it will be easier. only special tool needed is a spanner wrench and large wrench for the clutch fan.

and I thought the 03 had the 3.9l

And get an extra gasket just in case!

I did mine with out removing the alt, and ac pump and it was retardedly hard to put the top hose on, only had an inch of room to work. then later I read on dakotausa.com to remove alt and move the ac pump(dont disconnect lines)

I think they started using the 4.7 in 2000 and the 3.7 in 2004.

The 3.7 was offered in 04+ daks when they switched to the 4.7 they still kept the 3.9. Take the clutch fan off, belt and ac and alt bracket and you will be able to change it takes about a couple hrs if your not used to doing it. I think autozone might be able to print out steps for you.

As said, a PITA. Do yourself a favor though and buy a new pump to install. Don't get a remanned one. I have replaced mine three times and last time I got a new one. They definitely will last longer. This job is aggravating to have to repeat it every 2 years.
