Default 2004 2WD Dakota Doetsch Lift and Gears

Hey all.

I've been wanting to lift my truck for a while and am finally mustering up the motivation to do so. I've got a 2004 2WD Dakota Club Cab with the 3.7 and 3.55 gears.

The gears suck off the bat for towing my boat, even with my 255/70/R16's. So I would like to replace those and go with 3.92 or 4.10s. Which is going to give me the best towing ability AND fuel mileage? Also, what am I looking at $$$ wise as far as parts and labor?

Also, I'm looking at the Doetsch 3" suspension lift and am thinking about doing the lift myself. I've done some MINOR DIY stuff before but nothing like this. What all does it entail? Is it something someone with basic tools can take on? And what's the deal with replacing the ball joints?

Any input is appreciated! Thanks!

I think you are looking about $1000.00 to $1200.00 for the gears installed, if i'm not mistaken. For the lift i think you can do it yourself if you got the right tools and equipment!!

Good luck!!!

That much for one axle?! It's just 2WD!

And what are "the right tools"? All I have is basic stuff...of course I can take a trip to Harbor Freight if need be
