Yea, the insert is to prevent any large items falling in the oil tube...nice idea...

the PCV valve is just south of there..twist and replace every however many thousand the book says...I do, but I dont know if it really matters much!

The oil fill set up on the 4.7s isnt up to par, IMO. Moisture in the oil is never good, so Chrysler decided to put the oil fill tube right in the path of the fan that blows cold air. Someone forgot to tell them that condenstion builds up on the side of something with the heat. Alot of people have actually thought their head gaskets were leaking or their blocks were cracked. It shouldnt cause any problems if you drive more than 10 miles at a time. If you do a lot of short runs, I would change the oil often to prevent water from accumulating in the pan. And if you start seeing this in the summer time, or the milky color when your draining the oil, you may have another problem.

Yeah man, we call that 4.7L snot, lol. I've used synthetic motor oil on mine ever since I bought it new in 05. I've seen several like that and its usually just in the filler cap.

yea it was just on the cap and tube, wasn't any signs of it in the oil, i do a lot of driving now and its usually in the morning when its cold and dont let the truck properly warm up, just kinda get in and go lol. been coldest winter here in a while we got about 9" of snow christmas weekend had a blast was 2" from falling in a swap coming around a turn and brakes locked up, blown can relate our tires are drag slicks in the snow lol. and the next day on my way to work passing a car that fell in a ditch i had to come to a stop cause the car ahead of me started spinning, so i stopped and the road is crowned and the truck decided it wanted the front end to slide into the ditch too, luckily it was full of snow so i just backed out lol
