OK so today I did the De-Carbon job on the cylinders and intake.. Let me first say the 'shutter' is still there but no where near as bad..

Next.. the truck runs a little better.. seems to have more power.. and also you can hear the motor and all over all a little 'deeper'...

Def. worth the time and effort to do.. I might write someone up when i have more time.. as this seems to work better than sea foam and such..

In any case.. still going to replace Cat.. just cus I wanna..

And I'm going to get timing re-checked.. and go from there.. Keep you posted!

TPS is on.. Didn't fix the shutter, but the Trans seems to shift better, a little more stable and smooth.. Guess it was worth the 40 bucks.

So after driving for a good while around town and down the freeway I can tell even though what I've done has not fixed the shutter.. truck still has a slight 'roughness' to its idle.. the runs a little better while running her up and down the road..

Just overall is running better.. use to feel like a v6 with A/C on.. actually feels like a V8 now..

So all in all it was worth my time to do.. and def. has a made a slight difference in drivability over all

What do you think? Is it worth the time to try?

No more shutter, shake, vibration, or misfire feeling.

What a great feeling. I was really starting to get annoyed with this and imagining the worst. Trans going out, torque converter problems, cracked head, and you name it. Glad it was something simple.

I diagnosed this by removing the serp belt which disabled the accessories then started the engine for a minute. Engine still exhibited shutter so I shut it off and got under the front end to inspect the main drive pully assembly and harmonic balancer. I found with a strong enough grip on the drive pully I could get the balancer to spin without turning the engine.
What is the proper way to diagnose the HB?

if your going too do that the timing chai would be smart to do, because the oem is easily worn and strected out after 50k.

I'm tired of throwing money at this truck needlessly.. Whats the best way to check both? Timing 'on the money would suggest not a timing chain problem correct me if I'm wrong..

HB? What about that..? This guy says he spun it ?? Is that possible? I know its not on a Ford.. there are 4-5 bolts bolting it to the drive shaft.. Is this one of those 'replace it to find out' parts?

NO sure have not.. and like I said.. I would love to fix this truck but I've already thrown enough $$ money at it with no fix.. what I have done has very little made improvements.. so they are well worth it.. overall but not really addressing the problem.

I'll be replacing the Oil sending unit next to address another problem with the oil pressure.

Where did you find this quote? Was it in this thread? Was his problem with the shuttering on driving slowly like ours? Or problem just on idle?
