gear ratios
is a 3:8 gear ratio better than a 4:10? what is the difference between the two?
and if i want to change my ratio to a 4:10 or a 9:25 how would i go about doing so? where can i buy the items for this swap?

I would look here http://www.ringpinion.com/ It will give you an idea of prices, parts and also has some calculators so you can figure out what gear ratio is best for you.
yes i have 4x4. i have looked at that site, but i am completely lost with what i need to buy, i see axels and pins and a bunch of stuff but what should i buy to change my ratio to 4.10

Really if you do lots of highway You dont need 4:10's they are great for lots of towing, city driving and offroading. I have 3.92's Has great all around power without to much sacrifice of mpg I dont tow to often but my last haul in was 3,400lb and could barely tell anything was behind me. I wouldnt go anywhere else than ringpinion.com I bought gears for my 85 power ram couple years from there and my cousin has bought 3 sets of gears from there they are a great company.
just be aware that you must "set up" gears. they don't just bolt in. this takes some specialty tools and is part science and part voodoo. for comparison, paying a pro to do it can cost 400+ per axle in labor and takes them hours to do.
