Default Ice sucks.

So about a month ago....I was on my way to work for the 3rd time in the same day because I got a called to salt the sidewalks. Well.....apparently the street at my work wasn't even salted. The roads were terrible. But anyway...I was going only 10 miles an hour and I slowed and braked a tad to slow before a curve because I had to turn into the parking lot. Well, next thing I know...I'm skiing. Do I just hit the curb at such a low speed? No...all the snow was compacted on the curb so it was just a ramp. Is there a good chance I'll hit a tree that are over 30 feet apart? No...but I did anyway. After cussing many times and doing my job....I tracked down a new fender on ebay and I was able to have them paint it and ship to me for $260. As you'll see in the pictures, the old fender was beyond repair due to rust. My fender flare was also wrecked but since getting new ones would cost 200 bucks...I decided to repair it...

I did the replacement work which took me roughly 5 hours. A lot of bolt and electrical components had to be removed. After a lot of tugging and pulling...I was able to get it pretty aligned. There are a few areas in the frame that suffered minor damage...mostly anywhere related to the bumper. The bumper suffered the most damage...besides the fender, of course. I found a crease in the bumper where the headlamp meets the grille...which is causing the misalignment at the fender. Other than that...kind of a pain the *** job, but not too shabby. In all honesty I shouldn't have been doing all of this, but whatever.

I actually have new smoked headlights coming in. I SHOULD have had them 2 weeks ago, but due to ridiculous circumstances, I don't have them yet. Lots of pics:

Same thing happen to my step dad last year this is right after he got them ram hit some back ice doing like 20 and the as end ended up on a guide rail new front bumper, rear bumper, bed side and tail gate. I dont know what it is about these trucks but my fenders are also rusted out like that I patched the one but its rusting again and the other side is only about 60% not rust but its getting worse. Too bad you broke one of the clear corners I would of bought them off ya.

I guess these fenders rust because water gets stuck on the inside. I was contemplating on putting bedliner or something equivalent on the inside, but I chose not to. I'm kind of pissed about the clear corner breaking, but meh....good excuse to get the smoked headlamps. I gotta figure out how to get that bumper realigned.

@ Pete: Yea, these wheels are my snow set. Hey...it works well in the snow; excellent braking power....too bad it really can't do anything about ice. The roads were more slippery than I thought. If only I hit a tree in the parking lot....that way I could of had my work pay for the damage considering the property is responsible for the parking lot conditions. Even though I'm part of the maintenance staff...our job is not to take care of the lots, just the sidewalks.

Yeah my rust came in handy when I was doing my hid fogs tho I ran the wires down threw the rust so thats a plus lol. This summer I have some rust that im going to get fixed biggest concern is the rear cab corner is rusted. Yeah I need clear corners I hate my orange ones. I found a set for 30 once I should of got them lol but I want smoked lights too.

I had a similar incident about a month ago. I just smashed up my rims. And if you're like me, you were more upset that you crashed than the fact that you just did damage to your truck...

lol....as I was sliding towards the tree I was just staring at it with the only reaction I could think of since it was all I could do: "son of bitch." I was already upset I had to come back to work for the 3rd time. I think trees and my truck have some kind of magnetic force...because there seriously isn't another tree for a good amount of distance. If it wasn't for the snow on the curb...I would have just stopped at impact of the curb.

The wheel actually hit the tree first. I had my wheel turned left, because after the crash, my steering wheel was off alignment to the left. Good thing I delayed the alignment after cranking the torsion bars, because I would have paid for 2 alignments in one month. I find it kind of funny that my bumper is off by so much and the fact the fender got trashed....and in the end the emblem on the fender only suffered a crack in the middle LOL.

I had a real close call about a month ago.I was on my way to work and was playing around a little in an icy parking lot. There is a small concrete wall that's about 4 ft tall on the outside of the parking lot.Well I was driving parallel to the wall and gave it a little gas and got a little sideways.I caught traction and my truck went head on towards the wall.I started cutting the other direction and managed to get it turning but then my rear end came sliding around into the wall and I started thinking "OH CRAP!" I got lucky and my bed didn't connect. It was so close though that my hitch actually scraped the wall.I thought for sure I had wrecked.I stay away from that wall now also.
