Default Headache with headgasket *pic heavy*

Well guys what a long day sunday. drove up to billys and spend from 8am till 9:15 doing the swap. we encounterd countless problems:
-the header flange was rusted through and took us 1hr just to remove thoes 2 bolts. broke 2 drill bits in the process
-head bolts were torqued down so hard it took billy about every ounce of strength he had to break thoes loose.
-orings didnt want to fit into the fuel rail
-belt tentioner bolt didnt want to thread back into its hole
-we both got sprayed in the face with gas while taking the fuel rail out (not cool)

But once we got the head off (that sucker is heavy!) billy said it was not warped and the old gasket was in decent shape but just probably old. We installed a 180 tstat (runs much cooler), and 06 intake manifold (more power!!!!!!). we also removed the bolt that had broken off in the head.

We were almost done and just about to put the cam sprocket back on the cam and billy is like "uh oh." i cant explain it well but i may have lost timing b.c of an old/stretched timing chain! billy called his experts and got it temporarily fixed. I was sweating bullets at that point.

on the drive back it was smoking really bad i hope to god its just oil or something that was dripped on the headers b.c it was smoking so bad i thought it had caught on fire. Oil pressure was acting funky too, under hard throttle it was on the lower hashmark.

there are more pics in my link on my sig.

I'm not one bit surprised your smoking looking at how much fluid we spilled around the block. Mine smoked and stunk for about a week after installing the new headgakets (told you yours would too, lol). Keep an eye on all of your fluids and check the seal around the head. If the new headgasket/new head bolts doesn't stop the oil leak you either have a warp/defect on the mounting surface of the block or the head.

I'm glad we got the timing chain back in position after it jumped a tooth(Thank you Richie). When it started up, ran smooth and started stinking of burning head gasket sealant, antifreeze, oil and fuel I was pretty happy. I told you pushing through 12-16 hrs was no joke, lol. I feel asleep in my recliner when we were done.

Good to hear you got it done alright. Im sure with tearing everything apart im sure there is all kinda of fluids on the engine, it will take awhile to all burn it off.

one thing about it, I would rather change a head gasket on a 318 or 360 over these 4.7l's ANY DAY.

Yeah man, gaskets on pushrod motors are much easier than OHC motors.
