I have a 2003 Dakota 4x4 extended cab that I bought new in 2003. When I bought it, I wanted one with a V8 and a stick shift but all the ones I was looking at only came with manual windows and locks.

I was thinking that if I could find the doors with the power windows and locks already installed that I could swap them out with minimal issues. So, I had a couple questions:

1) Are all Dakotas pre-wired for power window and locks, or will I need to wire it?

2) Where would be a good place to look for a complete door? Any good online sources?

i know that some jeeps use the same trannt and motor as dakotas. and most jeeps are wired for full options just missn the power motors and locks. so maybe dodges are the same way im not sure. do you have any upull it lots around u or good junk yards. thats where i would start. hope this helps im sure one of these pros will chime in soon. this is my first dakota so im still learnin about it. good luck man

I used their kit for a 4 door 95 VW Golf. Worked perfect and looked stock - couldn't tell it wasn't - had OEM switches. Took a weekend to put in.

 

I was hoping to avoid having to tear into the door itself; take the old regulator out, put the new one in, adjust the glass, install the locks and wire it up.

I was looking to do more of a "tighten six bolts and plug in a wiring harness" option...

 

You cant do it that way anymore dakotas have what is called a ctm. It controls power locks,power windows,security,radio pretty much everything that has to do with body electrical. When a truck comes with no power locks or windows the ctm is programed to not work those options. I say look at it this way manual stuff is better anyway a lot less to break/go wrong

 

Is there a way to "reflash" that ctm?

...or can I pull a CTM from a truck that has been programmed to use the windows and door locks? What about if I want to switch radios? I've been thinking about trying to put the MOPAR in-dash, GPS unit in my truck...

 

gps unit should be alright but I cant be sure. The ctm you will have to find from the truck that has power locks and windows and get a connector for that ctm then run the wires from all your stuff to the right terminal on the ctm. A aftermarket unit will be much easier to install not to mention cheaper

 

I would imagine you could find a donor truck and rob the complete doors or just the components needed and the ctm, but I dont believe you're going to find a "plug n play" option for this job. Either gonna drop a pile of money or a lot of time into it.
