Default Fog light Problem

I am the original owner of my 1999 Dakota that has 185,000+ miles on it. Over the years I have had to change the fog lights out just a few times. Recently the I noticed the right side light was not working so I pulled it out and whole bulb was blown apart, so i went to the store and bought replacements for both sides and installed them. About a week later the right side blew out again so I put in an old bulb I had kept and it was fine for about another week then it blew out also. this whole time the left side was working, then just yesterday I noticed it was out and pulled it and the same thing has happened to it.

Any ideas to what could be causing this?

Thanks,
JZ00

Is there any moisture inside the housing? I know it's been raining quite a bit here in the Sound and if any of it hits the bulb when it's on, it'll explode just like you state. I had to replace both of my housings recently because 1 was missing (previous owner tore it off somehow) and the other leaked just enough that when it was on it would cause condensation which dripped on the bulb and made bulbs explode. Something to check...

Cyclodude is on it. Sounds like a moisture problem.

Also check for any cracking in the plastic housing from behind and around the actual clear plastic lens. If there is any, you could fix it with some clear silicone. I would put a bulb in (leave it off) and hit it with low pressure from the hose from behind and in the front and see if water is getting past the seal.

One good thing is I did manage to find exact match housings on ebay. TYC is the manufacturer. Part numbers are: 19-5239-01 (passenger side) and 19-5240-01 (drivers side). They were $30 each.

Np. Those of us in the Sound have to deal with more rain and moisture than most...
