Default Headlight problem

So I have another small problem with my 99 Dakota. Once an while when I have my lights on and I got to turn on my head lights the headlights completely turn off. If I cycle the brights on an off they normal low beams turn on. Once I was turning my head lights on and they would not turn on until I cycled the brights on and off. I believe the problem is with the multi selector switch arm, I can replace the whole switch no problem. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Any other ideas as to where the problem could be would be appreciated.

i had the same problem the other night. i jumped in my truck pulled the head light switch and took off down the road. it took me a couple sec befor i realived it was just my fogs burnin. i turned around went back to the house and started messin with the head light wires thinkin there was a short. finely i cycled the hi/low beam arm and bam hi beams came on then my low beams worked. i figured i was crazy or somthin. now it makes since lol. let us know if you find any more about this.

Once I get a job and get the money to fix it, I will post and update if it solved the problem.

My bet is the multi-function switch also.
Same exact problem. Replaced it, all problems solved.

I think the short in the system is in the multi switch, which is only $40 something through Advance, autozone, (local store name here). Must have been a problem with the manufacturing of the switch or something.

Try a boneyard, might be able to get it cheaper than Advance.
