Unhappy Missing/lurching at highway speed.......

Hello:

I have an '01 Dak Sport with the 4.7l, auto, 4X4, that 'misses' between 1500-2000 rpm in overdrive. Doesn't have to be under a load or pulling a hill, and it's not constant. No slugish acel if I hit the gas, and once it shifts out of OD it goes away till it shifts back. Blew left manifold gasket about 3 months ago, let it go longer than I should have, but fixed it. Destroyed a set of plugs in the process which is when the 'miss' started. Replaced plugs, replaced one coil pack (thought that was the problem) and still have the stinking 'miss'.

CEL is on and I'm gonna pull the codes tomorrow before work, I hope.....

Oh yeah, 180K+ on the clock, and now the right manifold gasket is blown....Gonna get this one fixed sooner than the last one though.

Any Ideas??

Thanks

David and the Mutts

Pulled the codes today....

P0141 1/2 O2 Sensor Heater Failure Oxygen sensor heater element malfunction
Guessing this one means I need new o2 sensors.......crap

P1391 ) Intermittent Loss of CMP or CKP Loss of the Cam Position Sensor or Crank Position

Changed the cam sensor when this one first showed. It did have a bluge on the side of the sensor so I 'assumed' that it was the cause of the code.....

Is it possible that the O2 sensor is casuing my problem?

Bosh platinum +2's don't know the part number right off the top of my head.
Looked them up myself from bosh's website and the ref book at Wally world....numbers matched. But that would be my luck.

Sitting in the driveway now debating on putting in the crank sensor I got at autozone with the cam sensor.........read to many negative comments after the fact
The cam sensor seem's to work fine though.

Thanks for the reply and info......guess I'll pick up new plugs later tonight......worth a shot.

Ok, just did about 30 mins on the interstate with the cruise set dead on 70.
Cel was on, came on while I was on my way to work today.

P0141 & P1391 again.

Noticed that the tach would jump 200-300 RPM at random times, sometimes with the lurch, most times not.

Is the tach signal read from the crank sensor?

btw, the plugs in her now are bosh 4308's +2 plats........gonna get the manifold gasket r&r'ed before putting autolite 3923 in this weekend I hope..Don't see any point in wasting yet another set of plugs.......

obdlink should be here by mail tomorrow too........maybe I can see the problem in a live data steam and get it fixed before I pull out any more of my rapidly thinning hair...

I know that yes the plugs will work in the truck but the thing is the motor likes a certain plug. The book will say what fits but not works well with it. The 3923's yes they are a cheaper plug but my truck loves them so im not going to complain.

Well....manifold gasket r&red, crank sensor replaced to. The sensor broke in two when he removed it, guess that was the cause of the miss.......one would think sensors would last more than 10yrs/180k miles.

Fwiw, the duralast cam and crank sensors seem to work fine...we'll see. New plugs go in tomorrow....

Please post your results with NEW plugs in!!!
