Putting together a dakota quad cab 2000 4.7 - 2 wheel drive and hoping for a lot better fuel mileage then mentioned here. I drive 75 miles to work and need something I can carry my kids in. Dumping my 4 cyl ranger that only gets 21 miles to the gal.
Shoooo hope I can get 20 out of the quad cab. Not sounding good listing to you guys thou!
You're never going to get 20mpg out of a quad cab. If you do it's doing 55 on the highway all day. If you really need a truck and a back seat then I guess you're stuck but if you don't need a truck at all, sell it and buy an older tdi jetta (before way too many restrictions were put on diesels like late 90s early 00s) or a even a newer civic si, carolla srx, cobalt ss... just to name a few sporty cars that can get 30 mpg. All of which are pretty fun in a 6 speed.

What does a quad cab have anything to do with it? The weight difference is negligible once you're up to speed.

Maybe a longer drive shaft has something to do with it? More to turn=More power loss=less MPGs?

They can do better than 40. I've seen them get close to 50 on the highway. Either way, its good.

And Madison, the extra weight makes a big difference accelerating and anytime there is an incline. It might not effect the mileage if you're on a highway that is perfectly flat. But anywhere where I live, that isn't an option. Your average mileage is greatly effected by the extra weight. It's fact that quad cabs get worse mileage than a regular or club cab. How much, I'm not positive but is a FACT that given everything else is equal, a qc will get less mileage than a similar reg or cc. Not my opinion. Fact.

Also, the extra weight is pushing you down the hill. The difference between the two is negligible.

every 100lbs of dead weight removed from a vehicle can save you a tenth in the 1/4 mile of course thats to a certain point.

That's WAY too general of a statement to have much validity.

(I don't mean that to sound douchey or anything)
