Big Brake Kits
Okay here goes. This may be a stretch, but if I understand it correctly, the bolt pattern on the, say 1997 Viper GTS is 6x4.5, okay? So that means, theoretically, that Viper wheel can fit, with the proper spacer, on our trucks. Does that also mean that a big brake kit for a Viper can be made to fit on our trucks also? I'm not talking about a 15 inch, 12 piston big brake kit, but how about a 13 or 14 inch kit? Maybe 4 pistons? I'm new to modifying the truck, but I will be putting some bigger rims and tires on it and swapping out the V6 for a V8. LSD front and rear. stuff like that. Wifey seems happy to "let" me build the truck the way I want it so......
I know the normal viper caliper will work(someone had it posted here not too long ago, which that would be a upgrade) Which I wouldnt see why a big brake kit wouldnt work but the question is do you really need it? You would have to do it the whole way around the truck to balance it out. By the time you do upgraded wheels(just to fit the caliper) is the job really worth that much. Im not telling you not to do it just thinking be better to spend money on engine mods and other stuff. Since it is like a 1,500+ for a big brake kit. What you spend just on brakes could make yourself a sweet truck with that money.

Hey, I appreciate your responses, I really do. Are you saying that the stock brakes are plenty good enough for the weight of the truck (4x4 with the 5.2 and all the related hardware) plus bigger tires and rims? Honestly. If they are, I definitely would want to spend that money on other mods. Its not like I'm made of money nor even have it for the mods I want. Its just that the first mods need to go to performance and safety rather than looks. I'm not a young man just wanting to hot rod a truck. I want this truck to be able to stand up to some serious off-road pounding and then drive to work on Monday. Anyway. thanks for your replies, guys. I'm new here and new to this extensive a upgrade project. Any help is appreciated and I will also heed your words of wisdom and warning.
Brakes do kinda suck on these truck or so I hear. I have pretty much a new breaking system from the master cylinder down and I dont notice any problems stopping. You can go with drilled and slotted rotors and a good set of pads and you wont have a problem.
I have 4 wheel discs (I assume all dakota's do?) and my brakes are great, other than the squeaking from the cheap *** brake pads the stealership put on there before I bought it. It's been about 30k miles so it's probably time for a pad swap anyways.
I think if you have 4 wheel discs your brakes are probably sufficient, spend that $$ on a 360 and put a blower on it! 500 hp!!!

What about both the rear disc conversion and stainless steel brake lines? just want to know that I can stop when I'm towing things too. rather be safe and prepared than kill someone finding out.
