Permenantly disabling the alarm.
Hey Guys, I have a broke key fob and the Grey key set. For some reason my alarm goes off randomly usually first thing in the morning when every one is a sleep.
It turns off once the key is in the ignition. I have done the door reset alarm and that I think works randomly also.
I have read where you can permanently disable the alarm by grounding out Lt.Green/Orange wire from the CTM.
Has anyone done this? I am a little nervous about grounding out this wire, so right now I just unplugged the horn.
Thanks

I think this will work, it won't burn anything up if you try it. At the CTM on connector 2, pin #14 there is a light green/orange wire there, cut it and insulate the two cut ends so they can not touch ground or any other wires near the CTM. That should stop the alarm from arming and disarming too. Just check your power door locks at the switch on the door, be sure they still work OK. Re-connect the horn and be sure it works too.
Just guessing though, from your other post about the radio problem you had, it sounds like your CTM is going bad. You may end up having other electrical problems until you swap out the CTM. It's also a really good idea to check and clean all of your ground connections. There are ground lugs in each kick panel and unless you have a 4.7 engine there should be a ground on the engine block in front of each valve cover and one on the frame behind the left front wheel. There may be ground lugs in the engine compartment on the inside of each fender too. Remove the bolts and clean the metal underneath and the connector itself down to clean bare shiny metal.

Sorry I have a 4.7 QC, I have read that you splice into the Lt Green/Orange and then place to ground.
Can you just go to a junk yard and put a CTM in from another Dakota or does it need to be programmed to each vehicle?

i assume a 2001-2004? i do believe you need to program the ctm to your truck based on the options your truck has. it does sound like a bad ctm cuz the alarm should disarm whem you unlock the truck using the door key cylinder. or you can get a new keyfob and have that programmed to the truck.
take the door panel off and unhook the wires from the tumbler and connect them. that all i did. its creats a computer unlocked triger in the alarm. or just pull the modual like we use to do on the isuzu's. and the old jeeps!!

The light green/orange wire is a signal from the door lock latch mechanism to the CTM. It is a one-wire multiplex circuit that provides arm and disarm inputs to the factory alarm in the CTM. It does this by telling the CTM whether the door is locked (arm) or unlocked (disarm) with the factory remote keyless entry control. If you cut that green/orange wire there is no input at all to trigger the alarm, not for arm or disarm.
You have to use a negative pulse through resistors and relays to mimic the action of the factory system to arm or disarm the factory alarm in the CTM. I think it was a 330 ohm resistor for unlock and an 880 ohm for lock to trigger the alarm in the CTM, and you still need to wire the trigger from two relays, one for lock and one for unlock. That same green/orange wire will also unlock all the doors with a double pulse negative input. You don't need to do all that if all you want to do is stop the factory alarm from being set when you lock the door and then going off and honking the horn when you don't have a functioning remote control to turn the alarm off. All you should need to do is cut that green/orange wire at the CTM. You can unplug the door lock latch inside the door if you want but that is a lot more work to do the same thing as simply cutting the green/orange wire.
If you need one you can buy a new CTM and plug it in your truck, everything should work fine with no other programming. The only reason to have the new CTM programmed is to program the old existing factory keyless entry remotes to the new alarm module in the new CTM. If your old factory remotes don't work, there is no need to have the CTM programmed. You can buy an aftermarket keyless and install it or have it installed or you can buy a replacement remote which you need the Dodge dealer to use the DRB-3 scan tool to program to the new CTM. I would guess a new remote at the dealer will cost about $50.00 to $75.00 each, and a new CTM runs anywhere from about $200.00 to $300.00. Personally I think it's a bad idea to buy a used CTM from a junk yard, just because it is a pretty sensitive and expensive electronic part. It's just one of those parts that is best if you buy it new at the dealer, plus the dealer will use your VIN to order the right CTM for your truck. There are two different CTM's, one for basic trucks (like mine) with no power windows, power locks, factory cruise, etc and one for trucks that came from the factory loaded with all the power options and electronic goodies.
Try cutting the green/orange wire and see if that solves the alarm problem. Then you can see how things go and only replace the CTM if you have other new electrical problems. CTM failure is a pretty common problem on Dakota's.

try what 01 said to do by cutting the wire first. the ctm will not know to arm it or disarm it then.i looked at a few of my wiring diagrams, and a couple have said to pulse the lt green/orange wire to ground through a 1565ohm resister to disarm the alarm.that would be to disarm without unlocking it. an aftermarket keyless would disarm it when you unlock the doors as well, and they are fairly inexpensive and easy to install.
I would like to try this before I start cutting wires.
Just weird that I have a chipped key, but without a key fob the alarm keeps going off when I unlock the door using the key. Or maybe just a coincident that this is happening and has nothing to do with the Fob and more to do with the CTM. You can't steal the truck with out the right key with the anti-thief?
